Farid Gul, 56, was a retired army officer and had joined Edhi Centre in 1996 as a volunteer. He contracted the virus while transporting Coronavirus patients to various hospitals and quarantine centres. After testing positive for COVID-19, he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Multan where he later lost the battle against the deadly virus.
Gul’s colleague Farid Khan told Express Tribune that the deceased ex-soldier was a tough volunteer, working during floods as well as bomb blasts. “Gul would not take leaves or even a weekly off because he believed that as a driver”, Farid Khan added.
Farid Gul’s son Awais Khan said that his father not only served the nation as a soldier but also served its ailing people while being an Edhi Centre volunteer. “My father sacrificed his life as a frontline warrior against Coronavirus”, Awais said.
