Iranian Officials Say Thousands Of Pakistanis Jailed In Iran After Migrating Illegally

Over 5,000 Pakistani migrants are imprisoned in Iranian jails after getting caught on their way to Europe without valid travel documents, Iranian border officials said.

According to a report in Dawn, these details were made public after the Iranian authorities deported a large number of migrants through Raahdari Gate in Taftan.

There are more than 5,000 Pakistanis imprisoned in Iranian jails, the report quoted an official as saying. It further said that the border authorities in Iran were detaining these people on a daily basis.

“We receive only 200 people on a daily basis as there is no more space in FIA station at Taftan,” the official said, adding these people include even women and children moving all risky ways without having valid traveling documents.

In a comment on the hike in the number of detentions, he said due to Covid restrictions along the border of Turkey and Iran, illegal immigrants have been facing hurdles in reaching their desired destinations.
