In a letter dated October 9, and sent before Turkey’s attacks in northern Syria, Trump asked the Turkish president to ‘work out a good deal’.
Turkish presidential sources reported that the letter had been ‘thoroughly rejected’ by Erdogan.
The sources stated to media, “President Erdogan received the letter, thoroughly rejected it and put it in the bin.”
In the letter, Trump had told Erdogan, "Don't be a tough guy. Don't be a fool!"
Trump had tried to convince the Turkish president not to attack Syria and had threatened him of consequences. He had stated, “You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy – and I will.”
He had further asked Erdogan to deal with the matter in the right and humane way, and not be remembered as a ‘devil’.
