Work on the Dasu Hydropower Project has been stopped after the Chinese company leading the project laid off all employees over security concerns.

Geo TV reported that the China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC) has issued a letter that the company is discontinuing its operation due to the July 14 bus incident which claimed the lives of nine Chinese nationals. The company however assured that the dismissed employees will be given salary and gratuity according to their contracts.

Anwar ul Haq, the project director, confirmed that the work on the project has been halted, but added that it would be restarted when the security situation improves.

Earlier today, Pakistan and Chinese authorities held a discussion over the Dasu bus incident and agreed to complete the investigation into the accident at the earliest. 12 people, including nine Chinese nationals, had lost lives in the incident which was followed by contradictory statements about its nature by Pakistani officials.

The decision to carry forward the investigation was taken during a telephonic conversation between Chinese Minister for Public Security Zhao Kezhi and Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed.
