Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Azma Bukhari has alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government and Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chohan had planned to attack PML-N VP Maryam Nawaz during her visit to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office on Aug 12.

“The PTI government and people like [information minister] Fayyaz Chohan had planned to attack the PML-N workers outside the NAB offices,” PML-N Punjab Information Secretary Azma Bokhari said in a statement.

According to Bokhari, the PML-N would not be blackmailed because of some 'doctored videos' shown on the media. She added that Maryam had been on the nerves of the PTI leaders who were afraid of her politics.

Speaking about the alleged rift within PML-N, she said the 'NAB-Niazi nexus won’t succeed in breaking the PML-N and weakening the Sharif family'.

"The government had just months to deliver and that was why it got aggressive in political victimisation of its opponents," the PML-N leader added.

On Aug 12, PML-N workers, who had gathered outside the NAB office ahead of the hearing, allegedly clashed with police at Thokar Niaz Baig. Resultantly, police resorted to baton-charge and tear gas, resulting in injuries to PML-N workers.

Following the clashes, Maryam addressed a press conference, wherein she had accused NAB of high-handedness. The PML-N leader had said the crackdown on the party workers by the Punjab Police was the ‘worst form of state oppression’.
