The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police department has requested additional funds of Rs240 million for security during the ‘Azadi March’.
According to a report in Express Tribune, sources within the KP police and finance department have stated that the provincial government has discussed security measures with the relevant departments to ensure security during the march which is to take place at the end of October.
Sources informed media that law enforcers would require around 80 platoons of the police and 40 platoons of the Frontier Constabulary along with contingents stationed at the entry and exit points of the province.
Law enforcers also aim to keep the main highways including Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway and the Grand Trunk Road shut during the duration of the march.
The police department has given a written request of Rs240 million for mobilisation of the required law enforcement personnel. The money is also required to pay for the food, shelter and uniforms for the police personnel partaking in the provision of security during the march.
Moreover, KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai has warned the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and its supporters from wearing their Khaki uniform.
He stated that they would be treated as per law and that the formation of a militia won’t be allowed under Article 265 of the constitution.
Yousafzai further added that the party won’t be allowed to use kids as human shields for their political gains.
