Karachi police have registered a case against 250 baton-armed leaders and workers of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) for blocking the highway that links Karachi and Balochistan through Hub.

The JUI-F had announced the end of its sit-in in Islamabad on November 13 while expanding its Azadi March to the whole country with plans to block major highways and roads.

Hub Area Station House Officer Mohammad Wasim told media that police had registered a case against JUI-F leaders and supporters after they suddenly blocked the highway, which resulted in collision between vehicles.

He said that the FIR had been registered against 250 people, which included JUI-F Provincial Secretary General Allama Rashid Mehmood Soomro and some other leaders and workers. However, no arrest has been made so far.

According to a report in Dawn, the FIR includes sections 147 (punishment for riots), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 427 (mischief).

Meanwhile, JUI-F leader Qari Usman informed media that it was ‘incomprehensible why a case had been registered against their party leaders and workers when the PPP was an ally of the protest.

He said that the party would continue its sit-ins and such won’t back down in face of such tactics.
