Social Media ‘Temporarily’ Blocked In Pakistan As TLP’s Violent Protests Enter 5th Day

Social media has been temporarily blocked in Pakistan as proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP)’s violent protests enter their fifth day.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was on Friday asked by the Interior Ministry to temporarily  block social media applications in Pakistan, which it did. Access to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, WhatsApp and Telegram has been blocked in the country.
The decision was taken to “maintain public order”.
The social media apps will remain blocked till 3pm.

Earlier on Thursday, a notification declaring the TLP a banned outfit was issued following Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed’s press conference where he vowed to act against the rioters.
