Pakistan’s nuclear programme founder Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has claimed that General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, under US influence, pressured him to read a televised statement written by the former president. Dr Qadeer made these claims in a letter to the Lahore High Court chief justice, Express Tribune reported.

The nuclear scientist appeared on PTV in 2004 and confessed to running a proliferation ring, and transferring technology to Iran between 1989 and 1991, and to North Korea and Libya between 1991 and 1997.

Dr Qadeer also claimed that Musharraf had promised him that he would be restored after a few days of the speech. But Musharraf broke his promise, he wrote, adding that former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and lawyer SM Zafar were also witnesses during this exchange.

in the letter to LHC, Dr Qadeer requested the high court hear his case in an open court, stating it was his fundamental right to plead his case himself (in person) or by his representative(s)." My presence in the court should be made sure by the court in order to get the right facts and justice in the case, he added.

The respondents (the government of Pakistan and Strategic Plans Division Force) has imposed an illegal ban on me. I wish to appear before the court in person to explain my grievances but I am being restrained," the letter stated.
