Fatima Irfan Wins Gold In World Universities Jiu-Jitsu Cup

Pakistan's female martial artist Fatima Irfan has made the country proud by winning Gold medal in World Jiu-Jitsu Universities Championship in Thailand.

Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling with particular emphasis on ground fighting.

Pakistan ranked 6th among the world's best nations in the Jiu-Jitsu tournament.

Fatima Irfan's Gold and Silver medals in two different categories helped Pakistan move up to 6th ranking. Fatima bagged a Gold medal in Ne-Waza's 57-kg category, while she bagged a Silver in Duo Classic Mixed category.



Grapplers Dilawar Khan and Muhammad Ali bagged silver medals in duo classic mens category. Host nation Thailand won the Cup, while Uzbekistan and Kazakhastan came second and third respectively.

Pakistan Jiu-Jitsu Federation President Khalil Ahmed Khan congratulated the winners and commended effort's of the Association's Secretary, Tariq Ali, in ensuring participation of the aforementioned athletes. He also commended the participation for bringing glory to the nation.

In February, Pakistani martial artists won 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at the 7th Fujairah Open Taekwondo Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistani Athletes Sinan Ashfaq and Muhammad Danish won Gold medals, Taimur Saeed won Silver medal, while 8-year old Ayesha Ayaz and ArifUllah won Bronze medals during the championship.

Also in February, Pakistan’s First Female MMA fighter Anita Karim scored an important decision victory at ONE: Warrior Series’ February episode.

Anita Karim is 1-1 Pro-MMA.



The Islamabad-based fighter, who trains out of Fight Fortress, scored her first MMA win after beating Indonesia’s Gita Suharsono via unanimous decision in Singapore.
