Pakistani Footballer Exhibits Versatility By Bagging Gold Medal For Powerlifting

Pakistan women football team midfielder Zulfia Nazir is making her way into powerlifting after winning a gold medal in Dubai.

The footballer had represented Pakistan’s women football team in the South Asian Football Federation Women Championship in 2014, in which she participated in three games for the national women’s team.

According to a report in Geo, Zulfia is presently in Dubai where she plays football for a local club and also works as a fitness trainer.

On Friday, she added to her fame and profile by bagging a gold medal in the in the Desert Barbell Power Meet in Dubai.




Zulfia participated in the ‘under 52 kg’ weight category, in which she lifted a weight of 110 in squats and deadlift while in the chest press category, she lifted a weight of 57.5 to win the gold medal.

The athlete now aims to win awards for the country in powerlifting and desires to compete in the Asian Championship.


While talking to media, Zulfia said, "I want to play in the Asian Championship. I know I can win titles for Pakistan. I have contacted people at the helm of affairs in Pakistan and hope that I will get a chance to represent my country."



Regarding football, Zulfia has expressed hope that she would wear green once again.

She aims to represent Pakistan in both football and powerlifting. "I haven't quit football. I am playing for a local club here and I am very much in practice. It will be exciting to represent Pakistan in multiple sports," she said.
