Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan was angered by the government's act of offering rewards to police officials for arresting Abid Malhi, prime suspect in the Lahore motorway gang-rape.

While hearing a case, the LHC chief justice asked as to why police should be rewarded for doing what is supposed to be their responsibility. The CJ asked, "Should cops wait for a reward from the government before arresting a culprit?"

Further, Justice Khan said that it was the job of the police to arrest suspects. "If they don't catch criminals, what else will they do?," he said.

On Monday, the prime suspect in the Lahore-Sialkot motorway gang-rape case, Abid Malhi, was finally caught by Punjab police on Monday. The arrest comes a month after the incident.

According to police, Abid was arrested from Islamabad and the authorities moved him to Lahore for investigation. However, the suspect's father has denied the police's claims that he was arrested on a tip-off from agencies. Abid Malhi's father claims that his son had surrendered to the police over a phone call after which they came to arrest him.
