PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has Thursday written a letter to Minister for Aviation Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar Khan, requesting him to arrange for special flights between Peshawar and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to bring back stranded Pakistanis there.

In his letter, Sherpao wrote that a large number of Pakistanis are working in Saudi Arabia and the majority of them belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He said that these overseas Pakistanis have helped the country in every hour of need, especially during the crises like earthquakes and floods, but during the COVID-19 outbreak, the government of Pakistan has left them on their own in a foreign land.

He wrote that over 10,000 Pakistanis are stranded in Saudi Arabia and have registered themselves with the Pakistani embassy. They want to come home because visas of many of them have expired and many have also become jobless during the pandemic.

He requested the minister to arrange special flights to bring back these stranded Pakistanis.

Pakistan International Airline has operated special flights for stranded Pakistanis abroad. Several Pakistanis have been brought back from Saudi Arabia as well. But the number of compatriots still stranded abroad is extremely high.
