Laiba Zainab responds to mainstream media anchors e.g. Aamir Liaquat & Orya Maqbool Jan for criticizing the Aurat March. She says criticism over Aurat March is unjust, whether it is on the social media or the mainstream media. She says anchors who have never or not been to the event are critcizing like they know everything.
She says these people are silent when women are discriminated and subjected to abuse and violence or when the wage gap is too high between men and women but a march in which women speak up for their rights has outraged a lot of them.
She says Aurat March was anti-patriarchy, not anti-men.
n March 8, Aurat March took to streets again this year to celebrate the International Women’s Day in Pakistan. The main demand was freedom: Freedom from patriarchy and from regressive norms that don’t let women achieve their full potential.
The event was attended by women from all walks of life. A plethora of celebrities, social workers, students and others attended the march in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore, Quetta, Hyderabad and Peshawar. This year’s theme was to bring justice to the peripheries.
Women were invited to speak about the injustice and discrimination faced by them
