Reported by Gulf News, NAB has decided to formally convert the inquiry into an investigation. This development comes in with the LNG scandal which has been in the news for a while, back in the day when Abbasi was the petroleum minister. As per reports he may be taken into custody anytime.
The LNG case dates back to 2013 where the loss reported to National Exchequer was up to $2 billion. The inquiry looks into awarding of an LNG contract to a 'Favored' company. Abbasi and his PMLN aides have claimed the whole inquiry to be politically motivated and a pressure tactic by the incumbent PTI government.
NAB documents state that the contract awarded to a subsidiary of Engro was in violation of PPRA (Public Procurement Regulatory Agency) rules.
Awami Mulsim League, Chairman, and leader, Sheikh Rasheed had claimed to take Abbasi to court aiming for his disqualification amid LNG scandal. Rasheed petitioned for NAB to act against the former prime minister and PMLN Maestro.
Abbasi in a press conference on Thursday clearly stated that he has no interest in asking for bail,
"They have nothing to prove me guilty and my hands are clean" , Abbasi added.
Earlier on Abbasi has already appeared before NAB multiple times.
