ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday issued the ‘Red Book’ of most wanted human traffickers.

The list contains the names of 100 proclaimed offenders, including five most wanted women criminals.

According to FIA, around 43 proclaimed offenders wanted in human smuggling cases are from Punjab, around 12 human smugglers are from Sindh and two from Balochistan.

Meanwhile, the names of three human traffickers have been added to last year’s list of 28 proclaimed offenders from Islamabad.

In 2018, the list contained the names of 93 most wanted human traffickers, out of which only 19 have been arrested so far, according to FIA.

In a recently held seminar, titled “Together To Combat Trafficking of Women and Girls”, experts noted that human trafficking impacted women and girls the most, and according to global estimates around 80 per cent of women and girls were smuggled from Asia.

The event was organised by UN Women Pakistan in collaboration with National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW).

An FIA official, while speaking at the seminar, informed participants that Pakistani women from poor areas like south Punjab and Balochistan were being trafficked abroad, along with women from Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad.

It merits mention here that earlier this year, a ring of Chinese and Pakistani nationals involved in trafficking young Pakistani women to China was busted by Pakistani authorities.
