According to a report in Al Jazeera, a senior official of the National Institute of Health, Rana Safdar, said that 66 people have been killed by the disease in 2019, while 370 died due to the infection in 2011.
Safdar blamed climate change for the increase in dengue cases and said that the government was using all its available resources to combat the virus.
Dengue has affected the greatest number of patients in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. In the twin cities, there were 12,433 cases of dengue with 22 deaths.
In Sindh, there have been 10,142 cases and 26 deaths, while in Punjab there have been 9,260 cases.
The report also cited a doctor as saying that the government had taken a lot of time to act against the virus, and only initiated anti-dengue measures when hundreds of people had gotten infected.
