Lahore Qalandars finished bottom of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) table for a fourth consecutive season and fingers are being pointing at the coaching staff and team management.

But Qalandars’ owner Fawad Rana believes that coaching is not a problem, according to Urdu News. “I was advised by Imran Khan to make Aaqib Javed coach of my team and all I can say is that it was a great advice,” Fawad Rana said, adding that Aaqib was one of the most hard working people he has come across.

“Javed is the kind of person who would sleep in thin streets of Layyah, would drive hours and hours to reach Gilgit Baltistan just to find new talent,” he said. The real reason for Lahore’s poor performance, Rana said, was that it lost captain Muhammad Hafeez to injury.

Later, some of the foreign players also had to leave so it deeply hurt team’s strength and morale.

He said people have also asked him to change name of the team because it might be ‘cursed’. But Fawad Rana has no plans of changing it as he believes there is no better name to Lahore than ‘Qalandars’.

The Qalandars’ head also thanked the people of Pakistan for their continuous love and support despite setbacks and defeats.

“I am extremely grateful to people of Pakistan. Even after we came to Lahore after defeat, the policemen at the airport saluted me. It was a bit embarrassing but I am extremely grateful.”

He said the reason he made his entry into franchise cricket is different than others. “I want to spread happiness and smiles through sport. Though we have been eliminated, but the journey to make Pakistan cricket great again continues.”
