Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has announced his resignation from the post of minister for Information Technology due to interference of the head of Digital Pakistan Initiative, Tania Aidrus, in the affairs of the ministry.

The MQM-P leader made this announcement at a press conference in Karachi. According to a report in Dawn, Siddiqui had made the decision as his being a minister was ‘raising questions’.

He stated that MQM-P had fulfilled its promise by supporting the PTI government, however, even after more than a year, the party’s demands regarding conditions in Sindh had not been fulfilled.

On the other hand, journalist Mansoor Ali stated on Twitter that Khalid Siddiqui resigned from his position as federal minister for Information Technology because of former Google executive Tania Aidrus’s intervention in the affairs of this ministry.

Former Google executive Tania Aidrus returned to Pakistan in December to head the newly-inaugurated Digital Pakistan Initiative, which is aimed at digitalisation to introduce technologies for public welfare.
