A police constable has been arrested for attempted murder of a deputy inspector general (DIG) of police at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.
According to a report in Dawn, police have said that DIG Shehzad Aslam Siddique was taking a walk on Saturday evening when Constable Muhammad Rafique attacked him with a knife.
The DIG managed to resist the attack but received injuries on different parts of his body, including the face, chest and hands.
The DIG alerted the duty officer who put the constable under arrest. Siddiqui was later shifted to Services Hospital.
Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station has registered a case against the constable for attempted murder.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Lahore DIG Operation has rejected reports that the constable attacked the DIG for scolding him.
Preliminary investigation into the matter have suggested that the constable was suffering from psychological problems.
