United States has expressed concerns on ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s decision to exclude Ahmadiyya community from National Commission for Minorities (NCR) that ignited a hateful campaign against the religious minority.

US Ambassador at-large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback took to Twitter to express the US government concerns regarding the said matter. He said, “Deeply disturbed by the rhetoric against the Ahmadi Muslim Community in Pakistan in discussions about the National Commission for Minorities.”

The US ambassador also urged to PTI led government to promote ‘inclusion’ and ‘respect for all’ while deciding such matters related to religious minorities.

On Wednesday, Religious Affairs Minister Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said that anyone in Pakistan sympathising with the Ahmadiyya community can never be loyal to the country and Islam. “I believe Ahmadis can’t be treated as other non-Muslims. And anyone who has a soft corner for them [Ahmadis] can never be loyal to Islam and Pakistan,” he said.

Last week, the federal cabinet had approved Ministry for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony’s summary to exclude Ahmadis from NCR. Earlier, 92 News reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a federal cabinet meeting, in which the summary to include Ahmadis in minorities commission was tabled for approval.

It was also reported that during the meeting, a number of federal cabinet members endorsed the inclusion of Ahmadis in the commission.
