According to police, one of the accused has been arrested, while further investigation is underway to nab the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, police have added only one section in the FIR, ignoring the charges of entering the victim's house and violating her privacy. When contacted, the investigating officer did not have an answer to the aforementioned question.
The victim's brother Ghulam Fareed told Naya Daur that the family remained silent due to their tough economic conditions as they could not face thee influential elements in the court. He added that his father had committed suicide due to extreme poverty. He also claimed that the victim's medical report falsely presented her as mentally fit. He appealed to the authorities to take notice of the case and serve them justice.
According to sources, DPO Dera Ismail Khan ordered a complete medical checkup of the victim along and also urged the officials to ensure addition of all relevant sections in the FIR.
Legal experts Naya Daur spoke to were of the opinion that section 452,511, 506, 36 should be part of FIR.
Social worker Rajab Ali Faisal said that such cases of sexual abuse are swept under the carpet and victims are discouraged from reporting abuse. He added that the mainstream media does not give coverage to the crime in remote areas, which is the reason why sexual abuse is rampant.
