As many as 7 other human rights activists were arrested in Iran last year in 2018.
Rights groups across the country and beyond have condemned the sentence to the award winning blogger, who denies all charges against her.
Sotoudeh is known for representing women who have protested having to wear the headscarf.

Amnesty International member Philip Luther said that the activist has dedicated her life to speaking out against the death penalty and defending the rights of women. He said that her punishment was outrageous.
"It is utterly outrageous that Iran's authorities are punishing her for her human rights work," he said.
Sotoudeh is also a former political prisoner - she was jailed between 2010 and 2013 on charges of spreading propaganda and conspiring to harm state security.

Last year, Iranian actress Maedeh Hojabri was arrested for posting a dance video on social media. Protests erupted worldwide and in Iran as women took to streets and danced demanding release of Hojabri.
