Watch South Asian Writers Respond To Urgent Global Issues In Online Reading Event

"South Asian Writers Resist" – an online special reading event – has been scheduled to be held on the morning of Friday, January 22, 2021, as per Pakistan Standard Time. The event, which is organised by Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center, in partnership with Los Angeles Poet Society, Tia Chucha Press, and the Tuesday Night Project, will be open-to-all, and participants can join in from any part of the world. The readings will feature prominent writers from South Asia as they respond to urgent global issues including rising walls and closed borders, the Black Lives Matter movement, and immigration rights.

The context underpinning the writers’ areas of engagement is specific but vast, from the stripping of Kashmir’s special status by the Indian government in 2019 to the American elections of 2020 and the expected transfer of power to the new government on January 20. The organisers hope that the gathering will bring writers across local and global borders together and provide them with an opportunity to forge meaningful connections. The event is hosted by Sehba Sarwar and will feature the following writers: Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed, Neelanjana Banerjee, Torsa Ghosal, Arshia Haq, Sorayya Khan, Mahmud Rahman, and Shreerekha Subramanian.
