Geo News reported that a spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, confirmed that Rao Anwar Ahmad Khan has been sanctioned. The sanctions include asset freeze and travel ban to the UK.
The Foreign Office said, “Rao Anwar Khan is the former SSP of Malir District, Pakistan. In his role as SSP Malir, he was reportedly responsible for numerous staged police encounters in which individuals were killed by the police, and was directly involved in over 190 police encounters that resulted in the deaths of over 400 people, including the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud in 2018.”
These sanctions were announced on the International Human Rights Day in order to worn off those who violate and abuse human rights. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on this occasion said, "The UK and our allies are shining a light on the severe and systematic human rights violations perpetrated by those sanctioned today. Britain will stand up for democracy, human rights and the rule of law as a force for good in the world. Underlining the UK’s position as a global force for good, this regime showcases commitment to the rules-based international system and standing up for victims of human rights violations around the world.”
