Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Nighat Orakzai arrived at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Friday to protest the police’s alleged involvement in taking over her land unlawfully. Standing outside the IGP's office, she sprinkled the petrol at herself and attempted to light herself on fire but was stopped by the police personnel at the scene.
Nighat Orakzai claimed that her land had been illegally grabbed by men who are supported by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman. She further alleged that IGP Sanaullah Abbasi was also under the governor's influence and would not help her in the case.
Nighat further vowed to commit self-immolation outside the Governor's House next time. "If anything happens to me it is the governor and IGP who will be responsible," Nighat said.
Nighat Orakzai was first elected as a member of the KP assembly in 2002 on a revered seat. She has been a member of the provincial assembly since.
