Earlier, Senator Rehman Malik had sent a second defamation notice of Rs50 billion to Pakistan-based American blogger Cynthia Ritchie for making ‘false’ and ‘malicious’ statements during her interviews to two talk shows on June 7.
“Due to the false, frivolous and baseless allegation, the reputation of Malik has adversely suffered at the national and international level”, the notification noted, adding that the senator has a right to ‘redeem’ his position after her TV appearances.
The PPP leader demanded Rs50 billion in damages, ‘prompt’ withdrawal of the allegations “in the same manner in which [they were] released and posted on social, print and electronic media” within 15 days of receiving the notice, as well as an ‘unqualified apology’.
In case of non-adherence, Malik has threatened to initiate civil and criminal proceedings against Cynthia, the notice sent through his lawyer said. In a series of tweets, the US blogger responded to Malik’s second legal notice by noting that she has not even received the first notice yet.
