Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat went on an angry outburst against public criticism, lamenting how the public could never be satisfied with the measures taken by the administration to fulfil their demands.

In a series of tweets, DC Hamza Shafqaat pointed out how the people made ‘paradoxical demands’. He highlighted certain measures that the administration of the federal capital had taken in light of citizen’s demands, yet that did not stop their criticism.

He pointed out how the public demanded action against encroachments, and the ICT administration retrieved 15000 kanals, in response to which people said that this action destroyed the economy of the city.

“People wanted tree Plantation. We planted 1 million trees without any Govt Funds,” he said, adding that the feedback was that the government could only plant trees.

DC Shafqaat also criticised how when plastic bags were banned, people asked, “How will poor people shop?”

He further stated how people had even been critical of shelter homes (Panahgahs) and how they had been built in far-off areas.

The official also highlight that the government implemented automation due to people’s demands of adopting technology, yet they said, “Now the DC will sell tomatoes,” when the government introduced the Durust Daam app.

DC Shafqaat further lamented that when they went to schools to raise awareness about drugs, people asked, “Why doesn’t the DC do his own work and why is he going to schools?”

He also expressed his displeasure over the fact that he increased engagement on social media as a result of people’s demand for an answerable democracy, but people called him ‘DC of Twitter’.

He concluded by saying that despite all this negativity, a majority of people had appreciated his efforts, adding that they would continue unabated in the fact of criticism.
