Syed Mehdi Shah, the managing director of Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), was diagnosed with coronavirus on his return from Iran on March 10. The grade-19 officer, who was in his mid-50s, was admitted to a hospital, when his health condition deteriorated.
DAWN reported a source at Chief Minister House as saying that the deceased was also a diabetic, which may have caused health complications that led to his death.
The CM’s brother-in-law belonged to an educated family from Khairpur district. Syed Mehdi entered government service in 1995 and served as the deputy commissioner at different regions including Mirpurkhas.
He left behind two daughters, a son and a widow to mourn his death, according to Zulfiqar Shah, another brother-in-law of Chief Minister Sindh.
Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah extended his condolences over the sad demise and said, "Deeply grieved at the unfortunate demise of Mr. Mehdi Shah Sb, brother in law of our Chief Minister Murad AliShah sb, who is at the vanguard of the fight against COVID-19."
