Students have recorded their protest on social media against the Higher Education Commission’s proposal to begin online classes amid the coronavirus crisis.

Many students are of the opinion that due to unequal access to internet in the country, online classes will end up compromising the quality of education for students based in remote areas.

The government has yet not addressed the unavailability of internet in the rural areas of Pakistan, which also indicates that the idea of online classes was not well thought out.

The hashtag #ResignChairmanHEC trended on Pakistan Twitter as the students called on the authorities to take notice of the shortcomings of this proposal from the HEC. Students and activists are asking to reevaluate internet facilities in order for them and the teachers to participate in an online education productively.
