Senior doctors have strongly reacted to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to lift countrywide lockdown ‘in phases’, terming it a step towards ‘self-destruction’.

Former head of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) Dr Saeed Akhter said that said, “I only envision destruction ahead in Pakistan without any uncertainty and ambiguity. The vaccine to treat the deadly coronavirus has not been developed yet in any part of the world, hence the only ways to counter are strict lockdown and mass-scale testing.”

Dr Tahir Shamsi, an expert in viral and blood-related diseases, termed the premier’s decision to lift the lockdown as a ‘step towards self-destruction’. He went on to say: “We would be very lucky in case Pakistan doesn’t see 150,000 – 200,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in coming few weeks.”

He said that the number of deaths per days will also be increased to around 100. “I hope this destruction comes after Eid-ul-Fitr,” he added.

The senior doctors expressed these views in journalist Nadeem Malik’s show on Samaa News.

Moreover, it has been observed that is less than a month, the ratio of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has increased from 8 percent to 12 percent. The data analysis predict that the percentage would rise as the number of tests for coronavirus per day in the country has also been growing on daily basis.
