The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has offered a range of assessments for how much Pakistan's economy stands to lose from the Coronavirus outbreak – anywhere from $ 16 million to $ 61 million.
The $ 16 million figure represents a best case, while the $61 million estimate represents the upper end of estimates for losses. These losses are projected to hit a number of sectors of the economy, including agriculture, mining, trade, services, tourism and transport.
Moreover, in a hypothetical worst-case scenario, Pakistan's economy could lose up to $ 5 billion. This corresponds to a worst-case scenario all over the world, where the projected losses to the global economy could touch $1.5 trillion.
In this hypothetical worst case, there could be a 1.57% loss in GDP and almost 1 million people could end up jobless in Pakistan.
