WHO Acknowledges 'Positive Trend' In Covid Cases Curtailment: Asad Umar

World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom has acknowledged a decline in the number of the novel coronavirus cases in Pakistan, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said.

"The PM had a call with DG of WHO," the minister said in a Twitter post on Monday. "DG recognised the positive trend in disease curtailment in Pakistan."

The minister added that the "PM asked WHO to develop travel guidelines to be adopted by all countries to ensure that low income countries are not discriminated against in global travel."

The overall cases in the country have been on the decline, with decreasing deaths due to the infections. The WHO had earlier warned Pakistan about a rise in the number of the cases.

On Monday, Prime Minister's Adviser on Health Affairs Dr Zafar Mirza announced that he had tested positive for coronavirus. He said that he had developed mild symptoms and isolated himself inside his home. Dr Zafar Mirza added that he is taking all necessary precautions after being infected from the virus.

According to statistics, the current confirmed cases stand at 234,482, with a total of 4,838 deaths. Sindh is reported to be the worst hit with a total of 96,236 cases. The number of total recoveries in the country currently stands at 134,957.
