Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM)-linked MNA Mohsin Dawar has written a letter to President Arif Alvi, urging him to call a joint session of the Parliament over the 'deteriorating' security situation and regrouping of Taliban in former FATA.
"The security situation in all of the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in general and in the districts of North and South Waziristan in particular continues to deteriorate. There has been a substantial rise in the cases of targeted attacks by non-state actors and extrajudicial killings by state actors over the last few years," the letter states.
Dawar further wrote that the regrouping of various factions of the Taliban poses an existential threat to peace and security of the region. He noted that over the last few months, the Utmanzai in North Waziristan, the Ahmadzai Wazirs in South Waziristan and the locals of Jani Khel, Bannu, have held large public gatherings to convey their concerns to the state.
He further stated that the region remains volatile as the ground realities remain unchanged for the locals despite military operations against terrorists carried out by the state.
Dawar alleged that security forces have been mistreating political activists. "A prime example of this is the continued persecution of Mr. Ali Wazir, the elected parliamentarian from South Waziristan, who remains imprisoned in Karachi on trumped up charges since his arrest on 16th December, 2020," he said.
