Moreover, most of the residents also refuse to abide by the social distancing protocols devised by the World Health Organisation.
“The majority of the people of my constituency are refusing to take the precautionary measures against COVID-19”, admitted the chairman of the union council Muhammad Adnan Khan. He said that the people are aware of the social distancing protocols and the precautionary measures but they’re unwilling to take them.
This union council was also sealed in April, along with UC-24 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and 90 people have tested positive here during the last three months. Adnan, while talking to The Express Tribune, added that 50 new cases had emerged since Eid-ul-Fitr but the people of the area were still not ready to abide by the rules.
He believes that it is the fear of social boycott that makes people hide the disease. The misinformation that the medical staff has been mishandling the patients has added to the confusion, he added.
“They are choosing to self-medicate and looking for herbal treatments on the internet instead of seeking medical help”, Adnan told the newspaper.
