Another Blow To Print Journalism In Pakistan As Herald Suspends Publication After 50 Years

Herald is suspending publication of its print edition from August 2019 to “undertake an editorial revamp,” a letter sent out to subscribers by the magazine’s director circulation and coordination read.

According an article in Journalism Pakistan, there’s talk of an online edition only. The news is a huge blow to print journalism in the country as the monthly magazine was renowned for its investigative stories and in depth analysis. Journalists, including PPP member and senator Sherry Rehman took to Twitter to express their sadness over the news:

Launched in 1969, Herald was counted among the most widely-read magazines in Pakistan as well as having a wide circulation abroad. The magazine is owned by Pakistan Herald Publications Limited (PHPL), which also publishes the Dawn Group of Newspapers.
