Asif was speaking about the incident wherein Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry slapped journalist Mubashir Lucman. The PML-N leader expressed criticism of how politicians were insulted by the media.
While addressing the assembly, he said that in the past decade or so, no political party had been safe from the undue and harsh criticism by Fawad Chaudhry, even the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He added that the minister was reaping the bitter harvest he had sowed.
It is to be noted that reportedly, before the scuffle between Fawad and Mubashir, the latter alleged that there were video recordings of Fawad Chaudhry and Hareem Shah.
Talking about the criticism from media, Khawaja Asif said that when media talks about institutions, PEMRA takes a notice about it, but when media talks about politicians, no one bats an eye as we ourselves are enjoying this ‘settling of scores’.
He added that he was with Fawad Chaudhry in this situation, but they (the ruling party) were only reacting when they were at the receiving end of media’s attacks and they were quite when it was happening to us (the opposition).
He added that as long as there was no harmony and respect on the floor of the parliament, the public will keep on insulting us.
He added that Fawad himself was an anchor and we should look at how he used to treat people.
He added that we should not form a special committee to regulate media behaviour, and that we needed to change our behaviour.
