A report in Dawn said that the husband fired two shots at her when police were taking her to a van for her journey to the Haripur jail. The accused was disgruntled because the wife had allegedly eloped with a man from the same village. She was a mother to two minor kids.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband, who was arrested from the courts soon after the murder, was produced before the court of judicial magistrate amid tight security on Saturday. The court remanded him into police custody for two days.
Following the incident, the district police officer suspended six policemen, including a sub-inspector, and also ordered a departmental probe over their alleged negligence which led to the killing.
SP Zulfiqar Khan Jadoon was appointed the inquiry officer, who was asked to complete the probe in three days. Following the woman’s murder by her husband, the DPO had replaced all guards of the district courts and deployed additional force outside and inside the courts.
According to police, the slain woman was in custody after her brother registered a case against her for abducting his kid last year.
