Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has taken notice of the mob attack on a Hindu temple in Rahim Yar Khan, expressing 'grave concern' over the incident.

Following his meeting with MNA Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council at the Supreme Court in Islamabad about the incident, a press release was issued by the top court. It said that the chief justice has take suo motu of the attack.

On Wednesday, a mob comprising enraged men vandalised a Hindu temple in Bhong, a town in Rahim Yar Khan, to protest against the bail granted to a 9-year-old Hindu boy accused of urinating in a madrassa.

Rangers were deployed in the area following Deputy Commissioner Dr Khurram Shehzad and DPO Asad Sarfraz’s visit to the town. A blasphemy case was registered against the boy on the complaint of a cleric, Hafiz Muhammad Ibrahim. Dawn quoted sources as saying that the Hindu elders had apologised for the boy’s action, saying that he was a minor and mentally challenged. However, when he was granted bail a few days ago, a number of local men got shops closed and urged the residents to hold protest against the development.
