According to prison officials on the condition of anonymity, the main convict Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh and three others, who had earlier been acquitted by the court, will remain in detention till the said date, Dawn reported.
According to superintendent of Karachi's Central Prison, the men will remain in custody of the police owing to a law that enables the authorities to keep any suspect detained for up to a year. According to him, the court had stated that the release of the convicts would threaten the safety of the public.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected government's appeal to conduct an immediate hearing in the case against Sheikh's acquittal.
