Pakistan Television Corporation is set to air a famous Turkish historical drama ‘Ertugrul’ based on the pre-Ottoman Empire era in Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), following Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recommendation about the TV series.

According to Arab News, the move follows a special request by PM Imran Khan, who recommended the nation to watch the popular TV series as it promoted true Islamic values, and insisted that the series should be dubbed in Urdu.

The series is set in 13th century, showing the time before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. It depicts the story of Ertugrul Gazi, the father of Osman I, who founded the Ottoman dynasty.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that they had taken the initiative as the prime minister wanted to protect our social, cultural and religious norms.

She added that the Muslim world had its own culture, heritage and values, but most people were looking into western values.

She added that it was the prime minister’s vision to share media content to counter Islamophobia and to improve understanding of Islamic values.

PTV director for international relations, Shazia Sikander, told media that PTV had gotten exclusive rights for dubbing and screening Ertugrul in Pakistan.
