Employees of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in Karachi staged a protest against non-payment of salaries during Mayor Waseem Akhtar's visit. When the mayor entered the hospital, the employees began chanting slogans against the delay in payment of their salaries and urged him to address their grievances.

Waseem Akhtar was visiting the hospital to distribute safety equipment among the doctors and paramedical staff under the aegis of Al-Khidmat program. But he was welcomed by protesting staff at the hospital who made desperate appeals to him to look into the matter and release their withheld dues.

On the occasion, the protesters said that government officials visit hospitals for photo-op, but are least concerned about the poor conditions in which the staff is forced to work.

The mayor after listening to the protesting staffers said that he was aware of their problems, but expressed his inability to do much about it saying that he does not have the powers to do make an announcement.
