DHA Admin Seals Head Office Ahead Of Residents' Protest

The administration of Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has placed containers on the roads leading to its head office ahead of a protest announced by the residents against the housing society's administration.

According to Dawn, contingents of male and female police armed with riot gear were also deployed at the site of the demonstration. Nevertheless, the protesters gathered outside the head office in hundreds to register their protest.

The demonstrator demanded a better drainage system among other things.

Moreover, a petition was also filed against the DHA administration at the Sindh High Court. The petition quoted by Dawn said stated that the authorities' 'abject failure to discharge their statutory mandate as well as their gross negligence' resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.

It said the DHA and Cantonment Board Clifton failed to take measures to prevent urban flooding even though it had been aware of the increased flooding risk for the last two decades. The petition cited examples from rains in 2006, 2009, 2017 and 2019 which had exposed the 'flaws in the drainage system'.

The petition also termed the registration of the FIR against at least 22 residents who protested 'peacefully' in front of the CBC's Karachi office earlier this week as 'malicious'.
