National Coordination Committee on Covid-19 (NCCC) will meet today at the PM House to decide the plan of action to combat the second wave of the virus. More restrictions will likely be imposed considering the rising number of Covid-19 in the last few weeks. Stakeholders including representatives of all provinces and armed forces will participate in the meeting.

Sajid Shah, the spokesperson for the ministry of National Health Services (NHS), while talking to Dawn said, “I have a feeling that further restrictions or a line of action for further restrictions will be announced as we cannot afford an increase in cases of the deadly virus,”

Shah also told that no decision would be taken without taking into account the opinions and suggestions of all the provinces.

Dr Qaisar Sajjad, the Secretary General of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) said that the government should ensure that everyone wears a mask in the public spaces. PMA has repeatedly suggested that the media should not give coverage to those who do not wear masks and violate SOPs in the public meetings.

“Unfortunately, we see policemen without masks in mobiles. Banks are one of the few institutions that have been implementing SOPs strictly. Government should take traders’ associations onboard and if fails to implement, it should go for the lockdown of areas,” Dr Qaisar added.

The NCCC ended all the Covid related restrictions on August 6 after a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. Few restrictions including the timings for markets were again placed last week after the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr Faisal Sultan announced that the second wave of Covid-19 had already begun.
