Daily Jang reported that the ruling party’s senior leader left everyone behind in making the highest profit by exporting sugar in 2019. The report stated that Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Punjab Chairman Numan Ahmad Khan also got notable place in the list.
The report said that the government did not even try to stop the export of sugar, despite knowing the fact that it will result in price hikes, and it would create sugar crisis in the country.
The newspaper stated that out of total sugar export of 783,308 tons, Jahangir Tareen’s sugar mills exported 136,621 tons of sugar – making the PTI leader top beneficiary, as per the official records.
The report revealed that Jahangir’s major sugar mill named JDW sugar mills exported 111,621 tons of sugar in the last year, while Numan Ahmad’s sugar mill exported 104,559 tons of sugar. The sugar exported by Hunza Sugar Mills was 910,41, and Federal Mister of National Food Security Khusro Bakhtiar’s sugar mills exported 24,600 tons of sugar.
Previously, Jahangir Tareen had denied the reports that he had exported excessive sugar and hoarded the commodity, that resulted in price hikes across the country. Prime Minister Imran Khan had admitted the government’s negligence, that was responsible for the sugar and wheat crisis. He assured the country that an investigation was underway to find those responsible.
