OIC Endorses 'Just Kashmir Cause', Urges India For Restraint
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Council of Foreign Ministers has reaffirmed “unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their just cause”, while condemning the recent wave of Indian terrorism in held Kashmir.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office (FO) on Saturday, the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) adopted a resolution, stating that Jammu and Kashmir remains the core dispute between Pakistan and India.

“The resolution of the issue is indispensable for the regional peace,” it added.

Expressing deep concern over the atrocities and human rights violation in Indian held Kashmir, the resolution also reminded the international community of its obligation to ensure implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

In the backdrop of current volatile situation in the region, the OIC member states also adopted a new Pakistan-sponsored resolution wherein grave concern over the Indian violation of Pakistani airspace was expressed. The resolution also affirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence while urging India to refrain from the threat or use of force.

Welcoming Prime Minister Imran Khan’s renewed offer of dialogue to India and the goodwill gesture of handing over the Indian pilot, the OIC resolution on regional peace and security in South Asia called for restraint and de-escalation as well as the need to resolve outstanding issues through peaceful means.

Moreover, the OIC, while acknowledging Pakistan’s constructive contribution to human rights discourse, norms and policies, elected the country as a member of its Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission from the Asian region.

The OIC adopted two other Pakistan-sponsored resolutions on international disarmament and non-proliferation issues and reform of the UN Security Council.

Pakistan has boycotted OIC meeting, which was held in United Arab Emirates (UAE), in the wake of India’s blatant violation of the Line of Control (LoC).

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had recorded his protest against the OIC’s decision to invite Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to attend the meeting.
