A full bench of the Supreme Court is hearing the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) plea against the denial of reserved seats in assemblies for women and minorities, which is the most impostant case in the history of the judiciary in the country, said senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, Suharwardy said that if the government gets reserved seats, then it will be able to make amendments, but the government will become weak if the opposition gets reserved seats.
He said that the judges will get an extension in their tenure if the government gets reserved seats. “The verdict will clear whether judges are in favor of extensions in their tenure,” he added.
The analyst said that the majority of judges are in favor of extensions in their tenure; therefore, it is expected that the government will get reserved seats.
While talking about the violent clash that erupted among officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in the Lahore office, Suharwardy said the FBR is giving refunds these days, and Gree Company gave Rs 82 million in bribes for the issuance of its Rs 360 million tax refund, adding that the violent clash erupted among the officers over the distribution of bribe money.
Instead of probing the matter through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), an FBR officer has been assigned to investigate the scandal. How can a junior officer declare his senior officers guilty? he questioned.
Suharwardy further said that although junior officers have been terminated, FBR Member of Operations Ameer Badshah Khan has not been sacked, whose subordinates quarreled over the distribution of bribe money.
He said that even Chief Revenue Operations Arshad Nawaz Cheema, whose signatures are mandatory for the issuance of refunds, was not removed from his post. Large taxpayer office Lahore Chief Commissioner Mehmood Hussain Jaffery, in whom office the fight erupted, has also not terminated, he added.
While responding to a question about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally that has been cancelled by the party, the analyst said that the PTI realized that people would not attend the rally in Rawat due to extreme hot weather. That’s why the party leadership has cancelled the rally.
To another question, the analyst said that housing societies are committing fraud with the support of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He said that victims of several housing societies visited the NAB office and held a meeting with the NAB DG seeking action against fraudsters. He added that NAB progress is nil in curbing fraud in the real estate sector.
