Judge Arshad Malik Who Sentenced Nawaz Sharif Dismissed By LHC

Arshad Malik, the judge who had sentenced former Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Shairf in Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, was Friday removed by a disciplinary committee led by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Mohammad Qasim Khan.

Welcoming the decision, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, saying the decision "establishes that Nawaz Sharif was unjustly sentenced. He went on to add that the "sentence ought to be declared null and void." He hoped that the decision would now be withdrawn in light of the fresh revelation and verdict.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability & Interior claimed that the second person, was had tried to influence the appeal was Naryam Nawaz, and suggested that she should be held accountable for it.

Reacting on the development, dismissed premier's daughter Maryam Nawaz said the decision was a victory, saying it was a day of gratitude for the party's supporters.

In July last year, Maryam released a video, which, according to her, featured a conversation between the judge and Nasir Butt, a person who she described as her father's loyal friend. She had said that the judge contacted Nasir and told him he was under the feeling of "guilt" after announcing the "unjust" decision against the former premier. According to her, he had subsequently invited Nasir at his residence where the video was recorded.
