Adviser to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Law Murtaza Wahab stated during a press conference that the Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah had advised authorities to restore student unions and remove the ban placed on them since more than three decades.
Wahab further stated that students should be allowed to participate in political activities, and that a law would soon be made regarding student unions.
He stated that a meeting had been held with student representatives, who submitted their demands to the government.
He apprised media personnel that a bill would be presented in the Sindh Cabinet and later in the Sindh Assembly.
The decision comes days after students across the country carried out the Students Solidarity March, demanding greater academic and political rights. The foremost demand of the marchers was the restoration of student unions.
Last month, the provincial assembly of Sindh passed a resolution asking the Sindh government to lift the ban on student unions in educational institutions.
