A minor girl was stoned to death in Dadu between the night of 21st and 22nd November. The girl, Sanam Gul, was stoned to death after the decision of a jirga (village council) that declared her a ‘Kari’. This tragedy took place the Wahi Pandhi, in the area of Johi in district Dadu.
According to a report in Dawn, the court has directed Sindh Health Director General Dr Masood Solangi to set up the medical board.
The board will likely be headed by the police surgeon of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences. Dr Solangi told media that judicial orders were required in order to exhume a body.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Laila Rind, has been taken into custody by police and has been produced before a civil judge and a judicial magistrate of Johi. Laila has been remanded in police custody for two days. Moreover, Taj Mohammad Rustamani, who helped the family bury the girl, has obtained pre-arrest bail.
